The St. Johns Fire District is a career department that protects the four barrier islands of John's, Kiawah, Seabrook, and Wadmalaw (approximately 185 square miles). The District was established in 1959 by South Carolina Legislative Act 369. and currently employs with 145, which includes 129 fire suppression personnel. In 2019, the department responded to more than 3,300 calls for service.
