The Long Branch Fire Department is a combination career/volunteer fire department with career members on duty 24/7 at Headquarters. They employ around 25 career firefighters and 40 volunteers protecting a population of 31,000 in an area of around 6 square miles with 5 miles being on land.
Neptune Hose Company No. 1 was formed in 1866, Oceanic Engine & Truck Company No. 1 was formed in 1872, Atlantic Engine Company No. 2 was formed in 1874, In 1878 the first three fire companies formed the Long Branch Fire Department. West End Engine Company No. 3 was formed in 1884, Phil Daly Hose Company No. 2 was formed in 1886, Elberon Engine Company No. 4 was formed in 1890. Oliver Byron Hose Company No. 3 was formed in 1890, Branchport Hose Company No. 3 was formed in 1905, Independent Engine & Truck Company No. 2 was formed in 1910.
